Forklift Jobs
There is a large demand for forklift operators within North America in various applications, with both indoor and outdoor job sites. You must meet the basic qualifications, have basic forklift training and licensing which depend on which state you live in. Qualified forklift operators have excellent chances
at being hired over general labor positions.
Businesses that range from the small to large corporations are often looking for forklift operators. Temporary agencies are also always hiring qualified forklift operators, and these jobs often lead to full time employment with their clients. A worker who holds forklift-operating experience can often make more per hour.

Forklift Operator Certification
In many states and in Canada, it is required by law that a forklift operator receives certification before using a forklift. In these cases, you must be properly trained and carries a certification card at all times you are using a forklift. Failure to do so could cause you to pay a heavy fine if caught or if involved
in an accident.
Forklift Operator Training
Training to operate a forklift usually involves both written and practical hands-on training.
Forklift safety, basic operation and forklift hazards are taught. As well, training in walk around forklift inspection before starting the machine and filling out the daily log book is needed. Hands-on lessons include driving the forklift and lifting and stacking bins or boxes on pallets. Other topics in training include:
• Proper forklift operation techniques
• Loading and unloading practices
• Emergency prevention and response
• Hazardous material transportation
• The principles of warehouse and inventory leadership.
Sometimes additional training is provided by the employer when you are hired for the job at hand.

Types of Forklift Equipment
There are several kinds of forklift equipment for the various industries available. Operators can
be certified in one type of machine or several models. Just some of the kinds of equipment are:
• Counterbalance forklift (also known as a Tow Motor or tractor)
• Electric Motor Narrow Aisle Reach
• Order picker or Cherry picker
• Walkie Pallet
As well, forklifts can be powered by diesel, propane and electric, depending on the application. Specialty forklifts are also available: for example in a cold storage warehouse a forklift with a heated cab for the operator.
